Tonelli manufactures furnishing items and designer objects in glass.
The company was founded in the mid-1980s and is the result of a
deep and lasting passion for research and experimentation. Tradition
and technology have been brought together to forge a company philosophy,
the very heart of which is based on the value given to design and
therefore, to the designer, when it comes to enhancing the characteristics
of this unique element: glass.
Glass has been
with us for more than five thousand years. Glass is the element
that Tonelli has inherited from tradition. It is one of the oldest,
most fascinating materials that the history of mankind has to offer.
Glass is fragile yet resistant, solid yet light, beautiful and at
the same time, functional. Over the years, it has been able to keep
all of its charm and extraordinarily eclectic qualities intact.
Tonelli's story began around 15 years ago, when the first steps
were being made in welding together flat sheets of crystal glass
using a structural bonding agent. Until that time, glass was only
used in the furnishing industry in the form of flat sheets or connected
to other elements by means of visible metal joints. The results
of early experiments in this new technique stood out like a small
Copernican revolution. And it was at this point that their technology
began. The welded sections maintained their transparency, while
the glass was more resistant in the jointed areas than in other
points.
The introduction of this new technique and the choice to aim only
at high-profile items transformed Tonelli products into symbols
of pure innovation. Today Tonelli does not just manufacture complementary
furnishing items; it also offers solutions for furnishing any room.
The precision of the sheet glass edges, corners that meet the highest
quality standards and stringent quality controls all enhance the
sheer excellence of these complementary furnishing items in glass.
Ideas applied to glass-working technology, such as the use of shatterproof
glass also for tabletops, have increased safety and therefore, the
range of application of this material. Thickness starting from a
minimum of 12-15 mm for supporting structures and from a minimum
of 8-10 mm for tops and doors means that glass is totally resistant
and sturdy and therefore, totally secure. But that is not all; glass
is also non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
Design that is more than ever a symbol of Made in Italy is their
company mission and the added value on which, together with technological
quality, they have founded their history. Over the years, the style
of their products has been linked with the most important names
in international design. The role played by design culture in their
sales network and in the display of their products in sales points
is a more recent but by no means less important.
